Types of Computer Software

We have been using many computer applications today. Computer software is an important tool for all of us. In this blog, I explain what software is, and the different types of software.

The Computer software is divided into two categories: 

1. System Software
2. Application Software.

  

What is software?

Software is a program or code that serves one or more purposes for users. Commonly, the software allows a user to simplify tasks on the computer. These programs usually include essay writing, and presentation design for your daily work at school, playing chess online or playing games, etc.  

Systems software:

Systems software programs allow a computer system to operate or work properly.

Examples of system software are below:

Operating systems

Operation systems are from Apple MacOS, Microsoft Windows, or freely available Linux.

The operating system allows the computer to boot up and includes other required software to run and operate applications on the device to function properly.

 Utility software

 Utility software is a tool to operate the computer functionality.

Application software:

Application software is a type of computer program that performs specific work like reading, and writing, watching, playing functions. Each application software is designed to assist students in completing a variety of tasks, which may be related to school work, office work, or communication with others.

Examples of application software are below:

Microsoft Word 

Microsoft Word software is a program that creates text-based documents. Word application software has many features that allow students to write, edit, and format documents.  

Microsoft PowerPoint presentation

This application software creates presentation slides. Students can add text, pictures, and graphics, to the slides to present information. 

Meta Whatsapp

WhatsApp is a messaging and call service application software. People can use this application to send and receive text messages.

Duolingo

Duoling is an application to learn different languages.

YouTube

YouTube is an application software to share videos.
